So today I rear ended a 2011 Honda Civ, a small strach [sp], some paint missing and a possible dent. My car on the other hand suffered some significant damage. Now as we were preparing to exchange info, I find out my car doesn't have insurance (its my parents and I wasn't informed) and I told her I will pay for damages and apologized, etc. Now I asked how much would it cost, etc. Her insurance company told her I would have to pay $20+ per day for her rental car how ever many days its in the shop. How are the insurance premiums in New york city (queens borough specifically) ? i.e. how much would someone like I have to pay for insurance say per year (for a car that has about 80,000 miles on it)? I have New York driving license for 2 1/2 years now, and prior to that had Pennsylvania license for 3 years. I had my own car for the 3 years I had Pennsylvania license, and have been renting cars (twice or thrice a year) for the 2 1/2 years I have been in NYC. In all these 5 1/2 years, I had no accidents. I am a freshman in high school interested in the medical field and I don't know much about all this health insurance business but I've heard all about this national health care bill and how all these people can't afford to pay for their own health insurance and that's why we are going to national health care and that got me to thinking about why we need national insurance anyway. It's obviously a problem of people not being able to afford private health insurance or not believing private health insurance is worth the cost. So I have a variety of questions about how one pays for it such as: How much do you pay a month? What do you have to pay when you go see a doctor? Are prescription drugs covered/ if not are prescriptions expensive? I know with car insurance your rate goes up if you receive multiple tickets/multiple car accidents and was wondering if your base health insurance pay goes up as well if you have a multitude of health concerns. If you could answer any of these questions I would really appreciate it as I am interested in going into the medical field later in life. I am also open to any other information about private insurance you have. However, I don't want this to become a political debate on national health care as I am purely interested how an individual pays for his own private health insurance.

I am 20 years old in decent health about 6' 5 240 pounds. So here's the deal, I am currently on a plan that has 0% co-pay after deductible this includes emergency room visits, prescriptions, the whole nine yards. However its a high deductible plan so before I can reap the benefits I must first pay 3000 dollars as the deductible so my co-pay until I reach 3000 is 100% all out of pocket I mean this isn't bad just sucks until its over.
